A Day in "Island of Peace" | Pulau Aman 🇲🇾

Pulau Aman is a small island located in the Seberang Perai Selatan district , Penang , Malaysia . To go back and forth to this island, there is a boat base that operates every day at Bukit Tambun . It is a fishing village. Suitable as a place for picnics and fishing and has historical places.

Aman Island and Gedung Island were once owned by Mr. Mohamad Saad and his older brother. Mr. Mohamad Saad died at the age of 99.

History:

According to local residents' stories, Pulau Aman was first explored by Kedah residents in 1783 and became a refuge after the outbreak of war between Kedah and Siam. Around the 1940s to 1960s, there were around 1000 people of various races living here. However, mass migration to the mainland occurred in the 1960s causing the population to decrease.

Pulau Aman is a 'car-free' island. Here, residents only walk, cycle and ride motorcycles using the concrete footpath that connects the entire island.

Currently, more than 90 percent of the land on Pulau Aman is still covered in forest and the people here are the seventh generation to inhabit this island. Like previous generations, on average they are temporary coastal fishermen, a small number are village entrepreneurs and even boat operators

If the tourists have a long time, they can walk through the rock s to Pulau Gedung next to Pulau Aman when the tide is low and collect the snails that multiply here. The location of interesting locations nearby makes walking the best way to get around here. Among the fruit trees that dominate the settlement area on Pulau Aman is the breadfruit tree because almost every resident's house is planted with this type of tree. On my way to Telaga Emas, I accidentally found a Breadfruit Tree which is recognized as the oldest Breadfruit Tree in Malaysia. This breadfruit tree was planted in 1890 by an Al-Quran teacher on Pulau Aman, Tok Awang Bin Akib. Although the age of this tree has reached 120 years, it is still able to produce fruit in large quantities.

Telaga Emas was first discovered in 1789 after a resident who was digging a well claimed to have found a pot of gold which later turned into gold colored stone. However, the analysis carried out by the British government at that time found that the stone was just an ordinary gold-colored stone (Please click on the picture if you want to read more about the history of Telaga Emas). Among the uniqueness of this well is that the fresh water in the well and the salty water from the sea do not mix even though they are only next to each other.
